NeQwa artist Barbara Lavallee was born and raised in the Midwest. After graduation, she ventured to Alaska to teach art at a native boarding school in Sitka. The result was a more than 30 year love affair with the state of Alaska and its Native peoples. Described as a painter of happy subjects, Barbara s paintings reflect her interest in people – how they live and what they do. Working in transparent watercolor, she portrays whimsical stylized characters dressed in vibrant colors. Her original paintings and limited edition reproductions are displayed in galleries throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.
